High-density Electrode Arrays for Spatiotemporal Imaging of Tissue Slices and Other Chemical Systems

We report a high-density electrode array fabricated using complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) techniques that contains 8,192 individually addressable platinum working electrodes in a 2 mm × 2 mm area along with an on-chip potentiostat. Microfluidic devices were mounted on top of the electrode array to control fluid delivery to evaluate the spatial and temporal resolution achievable with the array. The array was used to measure concentration gradients generated by the microfluidic device with both spatial and temporal resolution.
